Frequently asked questions.

What is Historic Medieval Combat and Western Martial Arts?

Historic Medieval Combat is a sport based on the spectacle of the chivalric tournament, originating in the Middle Ages. Sometimes called Western Martial Arts, we keep the sport’s history at the core of our learning; focusing not only on skill-at arms, we also aim to instil a sense of chivalry and honour into each of our students.

Are there any age restrictions?

Yes, the minimum age is 14. We have heavy duty foam swords to use during training for students under 18. You can read through our information for parents document here

What are your hours?

Tuesday to Friday 10:00am - 4:00pm
We are open by appointment only.

How much does it Cost?

There is a $30 rental fee for borrowing equipment during your lessons. See our session list for options and pricing

Do you use real weapons?

We use a variety of replica arms to practice and compete with. The steel swords are available for anyone 18+ They are blunted but are still real steel and we require a certain level of competence before we allow sparring against others. We have both plastic “wasters” and heavy duty foam weapons for the under 18s. These may still leave a bruise but are reliable and safe to use without risk of major injury. For more information on our Equipment see here

Is this LARP?

No we wouldn’t be traditionally considered a larp group as the sport we practice is grounded in physical and historical reality. You won’t find anyone pretending to be a wizard at our fights.

Are you insured?

Yes we are. You can view our certificate of currency here

Do you sell swords?

Yes we can source a vast number of authentic medieval arms and armour from trusted suppliers. Overtime we have realised that a lot of “battle ready” swords online (and particularly armour) aren’t what they claim to be. To combat this we guarantee any item bought from us meets our standards and can be used in full contact sparring. For sales enquires contact us or call 0410 047 344

Can I bring my own swords/armour?

Yes you can but it needs to meet our quality and safety standards. If it doesn’t pass an inspection from one of our instructors then you will not be able to use it. Contact us for further information on these standards and to book an inspection.
